Memories

Memories

The stair tread is quiet now
Where once it croaked with joy at your measured step,
no more.

The air idle now that once swirled and turned
On the exclamation, that shout of life, that pause for breath,
no more.

The decanter sparkles not
Rimmed with dried evenings lost, dulled by dust of unspoken thought, no message within,
no more.

The silence flexes its sinews around me
drawing me in, embraces me,
now you are gone.

A thousand days of laughter, refracted in a single drop
a tear that slips unadorned, unnoticed,
no more.

In memory of a friend, gone before his time.  september 2010
